Abstract

The concept of poverty in ‘the new poverty agenda’ has been broadened beyond the notions of inadequate private income or consumption, towards a more comprehensive perspective: poverty is absence of ‘a secure and sustainable livelihood’, amongst other things; the new perspective challenges conventional measurements of poverty in terms of GDP cut-off points and stresses the importance.
